Top 5 Things to Do in Raleigh With Kids
Raleigh, North Carolina is a charming, southern city that offers so much for families and children. I have been blessed to call Raleigh home for the past ten years. It wasn’t until I became a mother that I really started to appreciate this beautiful city. Raleigh is home to a wide variety of unique parks, playgrounds and museums that are perfect for your next family outing. There are so many fun things to do in Raleigh with kids, here are a few of our favorites:
Pullen Park is a beautiful public park located right outside of downtown Raleigh. The park is one of the most popular and well-know parks in the area – and for good reason! Pullen Park is really fun and unique because of the amazing recreational activities it offers for families and children. Some of the most popular attractions at Pullen Park include a miniature train, a beautiful indoor carousel and seasonal paddle boats. The park also features a duck pond, playground, concessions and picnic area. Admission to Pullen Park is free but certain attractions require tickets that can be purchased at the ticket booth.
Marbles Kids Museum
Marbles Kids Museum is a children’s museum located in the center of downtown Raleigh. The museum features a variety of indoor and outdoor interactive exhibits designed for children of all ages. Each exhibit encourages children to imagine, discover and learn through purposeful play. There is something new to explore during every visit to Marbles Kids Museum. Ella has enjoyed her visits to Marbles so much that we became members. Admission to the museum is $7 for children 1-7 and adults. Babies under the year of one are free.
North Carolina Museum of Natural Science
The North Carolina Museum of Natural Science is the largest natural science museum in the South East. The museum consists of two centers, containing seven floors of exhibits combined. The main building is called the Natural Exploration Center. This area of the museum is home to exhibits containing a wide variety of animal, marine life and insects local to North Carolina. One of the most popular exhibits in the museum is the Terror of the South that features a real Acrocanthosaurus skeleton! The second building of the museum is the Nature Research Center. This area focuses on scientist and the techniques they use to discover the information we know about the planet. The North Carolina Museum of Natural Science is an excellent place for children because it is a great mix of education and play. Admission is free!
Sassafras All Children’s Playground
The Sassafras All Children’s Playground at Laurel Hills Park is a one-of-a-kind playground featuring over 3 acres of fun for kids to play and explore. This playground is absolutely incredible! Sassafras is made up of a variety of multi-level climbing structures, slides, swings and engaging activities designed to fit the needs of all children. One of the most popular activities at Sassafras is the 50 foot long zip-line swings. Sassafras is Ella’s favorite playground in Raleigh because it has so much for her to explore. This playground is so much fun for kids and free for everyone!
Historic Oak View County Park
The Historic Oak View County Park is a beautiful agricultural park located in Raleigh, NC. The park is built around a 19th century farm house and gives you a glimpse into North Carolina’s history. Historic Oak View Park features an original farm house, gardens, cotton gin, live stock barn with goats, chickens and much more! The park is a great place to go for a picnic or a relaxing day outdoors. Historic Oak View Park is especially beautifully in the fall and around the holidays. Admission is free!
