6 Tips For Your Child’s First Trip To The Movies
There’s something so special about going to the movies. The popcorn, the previews, the atmosphere – the movie theater is just a really fun place to go! With that being said, the thought of taking your child to on their first trip to the movies can seem not so fun. Ensure that you and your little one have the best first trip to the movies ever by following these 6 Tips For Your Child’s First Trip To The Movies:
Is Your Child Ready?
I took my daughter on her first trip to the movies when she was 2 years old. I had been wanting to take her to a movie for such a long time but I didn’t think she was ready. Ask yourself the following questions to determine if your child is ready for their first trip to the movies: Do they enjoy watching movies at home? Are they able to sit quietly for an extended period of time? Are they afraid of the dark or loud noises? If you answered no to one or more of these questions then your child might not be ready for their first trip to the movies.
Choose a Kid Friendly Movie
Okay, so this tip is a no brainer but it is so important! When taking your child on their first trip to the movie theater, make sure to choose a kid friendly movie they will enjoy. Do your research before going. Look up the different children’s movies playing and read the reviews. If your child enjoys the movie they are more likely to sit and watch it. Skip the Previews
Any mom knows that timing is everything when it comes to doing things with a young child. As much as I enjoy watching the previews before the movie, it’s best to skip them when taking your child to the movies for the first time. Previews usually start at the time the movie is scheduled for and run 15-20 minutes so plan to get to the movie a little late. Doesn’t sound too bad actually! As a mom I am always running late.
Choose Your Seat Wisely
When taking your child to their first movie you never know when you might need to make a quick exit. It is a smart idea to choose a seat as close to the exit as possible. When I took Ella to her first movie she was really good but there was a moment when she got a little restless. Being so close to the exit I was able to take her out of the theater for a 10 minute break without disturbing anyone else in the theater.
Snacks, Snacks, Snacks!
Popcorn and candy are two of my favorite things about going to the movies. Having snacks available for your child to munch on during their first trip to the movies in an absolute life saver. Most movie theaters offer a cute kids tray of popcorn, a sweet snack and a drink that are perfect for your child’s first visit to the movies. Ella loved being able to pick at her popcorn throughout the film.
Go To a Matinee Showing
Matinees are perfect for your child’s first trip to the movie theater. Matinees are great for so many reasons but mostly because there just aren’t as many people at the movies at this time. I personally love matinees because it’s so nice to have the theater to myself and it’s even nicer when you take your child.
