Top 5 Things To Do In Charleston With Kids
If you are taking a family trip down south, I highly recommend visiting Charleston, South Carolina! Charleston is the quintessential southern city filled with breathtaking architecture, unbelievable history, and of course, the most delicious food! There are so many fun things to do in Charleston with kids too! Ella absolutely loved discovering all the fun things Charleston had to offer. Here are our Top 5 Things To Do In Charleston With Kids:
Charleston City Market
Located in the heart of Historic Downtown Charleston, the Charleston City Market is the most popular tourist attraction in the area. The City Market is filled with local vendors selling homemade crafts, unique souvenirs, southern food and of course Charleston’s famous Sweet Grass Baskets. There is so much to see in the Charleston City Market and it’s an amazing place to stop when visiting Charleston with kids. Ella and I really enjoyed walking through the marketplace checking out all the vendors and chatting with the friendly locals.
Water Front Park
The Water Front Park in Charleston, South Carolina is seriously the coolest park ever! The park is located right on Adger’s Wharf and is an excellent place to visit in Charleston with kids, especially on a hot day. Water Front Park is home to the famous Pineapple Fountain, a very popular tourist location and photo spot in Charleston. The park has a huge splash pad for kids to play in so don’t forget your bathing suit like we did. My favorite part of Water Front Park was the large swings located on the dock. It was so relaxing to sit and swing right on the water.
Horse-Drawn Carriage Tour
Horse-Drawn Carriage Tours are one of the attractions that Charleston, South Carolina is best known for. They are my favorite thing to do in Charleston because you get such a unique perspective of the city. It was so much fun learning all about the culture and history of Charleston during our 60 minute ride through the city. Ella absolutely loved riding in the horse-drawn carriage and was so excited to wave at people as we passed by. Horse Drawn Carriage Tours are a great activity for people of all ages to enjoy! There are so many companies offering horse-drawn carriage tours but I highly recommend Old South Carriage Company when visiting Charleston with kids.
There are three popular plantations for tourists to visit in Charleston: Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, Drayton Hall and Middleton Place. We were staying at the Inn at Middleton Place during our trip so spent a lot of time exploring the Middleton Place Plantation. Plantations are a great place to visit in Charleston with kids because they offer a different type of experience from Historic Downtown Charleston. Middleton Place was filled with breathtaking gardens and landscaping, dozens of farm animals including free roaming sheep and the historic buildings from the original plantation. You can even take a guided tour through the Middleton home if you would like.
Charleston Harbor Tour
There is so much to see and do in Charleston, and one of the best ways to see it all is on a harbor tour. The Charleston Harbor Tour is a 90 minute guided tour through the history of Charleston, South Carolina. During the tour, you pass by 75 different historic locations including Fort Sumter, Patriots Point and the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. Ella loved looking out at the sea watching all the beautiful sail boats pass by. We even saw a few dolphins swimming right along our boat! We really enjoyed our harbor tour and highly recommend it when visiting Charleston with kids.
